Hoos In Treble is a nationally-acclaimed, all-female a cappella group at the University of Virginia. As a completely student-run organization, we specialize in singing, dancing, vocal percussion, and arranging music. The group was founded in the fall of 1999 by Jennie Donovan, and over the past 13 years it has grown considerably in both talent and reputation.
In the last decade we have been featured on Best of College A Cappella (“BOCA”), been nominated for several CARA awards for best female collegiate soloist, received a CARA award for best arrangement, and been asked to perform at numerous venues—including the Reagan International Center D.C., The Keswick Club, the Gravity Lounge in downtown Charlottesville, our local Charlottesville radio station, 106.1 “The Corner,” as well as for private functions within our University’s own Rotunda. Last spring, we were honored to be selected to perform for our current University President Teresa Sullivan during her inaugural breakfast.
As a part of Hoos in Treble, we share in the one of the greatest privileges UVA has been able to afford us—the ability to be surrounded by a number of talented vocalists and musicians from many different backgrounds and to work together creating and performing music. From Top 40 to soul to indie and most genres in between, we are proud to have a diverse repertoire of popular songs—all arranged solely by our own members.
In addition to our uncompromising enthusiasm for continuously pushing our musical boundaries, what makes being a part of Hoos in Treble such a unique a cappella experience is that we are equally as enthusiastic about supporting each other’s wide variety of interests and talents. Whether we’re cheering wildly for one of our members’ FYP musical performances or starting up our own intramural sports team or even waking up early to try out hot yoga at the Downtown Mall, HIT is always there to support each other in whatever endeavors we may choose to pursue. Through Hoos in Treble, many of us have found our home at UVA, and we can’t wait to share that with you.
